Appointment of Chairman for National Strategic Manufacturing Sector Skill Council (SMSSC)
Udayant Malhoutra, CEO & MD, has been appointed Chairman of the newly formed National Strategic Manufacturing Sector Skill Council (SMSSC) on 22 February, 2016. This is an initiative of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The SMSSC governing body comprises renowned leaders of Indian industry and would assist this programme.
The strategic manufacturing sector provides employment to about 1.2 million people and is expected to employ over 3 million over the next ten years.
Besides developing clear career paths for existing workers and providing opportunities and linked benefits across the industry to reduce attrition, SMSSC would create standardised curriculums and benchmarks for training. It will also determine new skills and their standards for the existing work force and new entrants.
Dynamatic has already adopted the Industrial Training Institute at Devanhalli, aiming to turn it into India’s first aerospace ITI under this programme.
“The sector requires high precision levels and the current training infrastructure is inadequate. There is an urgent need to identify the gaps, assess the demand of various skill sets and build a skilled workforce for which all the stakeholders need to work collectively,” says Udayant Malhoutra at the inaugural event flagged off by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parrikar.
